May Angels Lead You In

May Angels Lead You In

my mom passed away in 2005 to lung cancer after she never smoked a day in her life. i was 15 at the time and in 8th grade. she was an unbelievable woman and seeing you pass away in front of my eyes at my young age was an unforgettable sight. she was such an amazing woman. we would take family trips and always bring CD's with us to listen to. and one day the song "Hear You Me" by Jimmy Eat world came on and my mom said how much she loved it and how sweet it was and then me my brother father and mother began talking about it. i remember after the funeral the song came on in the car again and my dad started to cry, not sob or weep, but just one tear on the cheek, i looked back and my three 23year old sisters, the boyfriend of one of them, and my brother crying. i immediately cried as well. all throughout the funeral the poem footprints in the sand kept coming up. january 6 2011 i decided that a vine weaving in between the footprints, representing the footprints poem, then forming to say "may angels lead you in" which is a quote from the song was necessary. the footprints represent the poem, the quote is the angels leading my mother into heaven, it starts on my left hip and circles around my back to my heart to symbolize that she has walked her way to my heart and will always stay there, and finally i wanted the tattoo to look like it is actually entering my heart to show my connection with my mother and the tattoo. it was the most painful thing i have ever gone through, physically and mentally, and it made the tattoo mean that much more to me.
